Lambda sensor

The lambda sensor is an oxygen concentration sensor , an instrument for exhaust gas control of gasoline, diesel and gas engines. It measures the residual oxygen content of the exhaust gas and ensures optimum mixture composition.

The lambda sensor measures the residual oxygen content of the exhaust gas and transmits the value to the engine control unit in the form of an electrical voltage.

Types lambda sensors

Basically, there are two different types of probes:

Jump probe

Depending on the oxygen content in the exhaust gas, the jump probe generates an electrical voltage change when it is at operating temperature (from 350 °C).

It compares the residual oxygen content in the exhaust gas with the oxygen content of the ambient air. It detects the transition from rich mixture (lack of air) to lean mixture (excess air) and vice versa.

Broadband probe

Broadband probeThe broadband probe has a wider measuring range and measures extremely accurately in both the rich and lean ranges. It is also suitable for use in diesel and gas engines.
